A devoted Dirty Dancing fan’s trip to the film’s original locations takes an unexpected turn when a car accident places her inside its story.
The story
Dörte Brandt has long dreamed of dancing like Baby and Johnny in her favorite film, Dirty Dancing, but her enthusiasm annoys those around her—especially her unromantic boyfriend, Jens, who has no interest in dancing. He nevertheless takes her to Virginia to visit the film’s original locations. Soon after they arrive in the USA, a car accident leaves Dörte at Killerman’s Resort, inside the story of the movie she loves, where people mistake her for Baby. Jimmy, the film’s mambo-dancing heartthrob, is there too, and Dörte is swept up in romantic fantasies about him.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Dörte Brandt has dreamed for ages of dancing like Baby and Johnny in her absolute favorite movie, Dirty Dancing. Her dream gets on everyone around her’s nerves, especially those of her boyfriend Jens, who is completely unromantic and has no interest in dancing. Nevertheless, he fulfills Dörte’s greatest wish and travels with her to Virginia to visit the film’s original locations. But barely have they arrived in the USA when they are in a car accident, and suddenly Dörte finds herself at Killerman’s Resort (Kellerman’s Resort), right in the middle of the film’s story, with everyone taking her for Baby Mouseman (Houseman). Jimmy (Johnny), the film’s mambo-dancing heartthrob, is there too, and Dörte loses herself in her romantic fantasies about him. Unfortunately, nothing else goes the way it does in the film, so Dörte has to convince her rival Ponnie (Penny) that Ponnie is pregnant and therefore can’t dance with Jimmy. The plan works, and Jimmy actually starts practicing dancing with Dörte. Meanwhile, Jens sets out to find his Dörte and ends up in the film world too. There he finds her in Jimmy’s arms and thinks he has already lost her. He has only one chance: he must learn to dance and outdo Jimmy. The only person who can help him is the jealous Ponnie, and the two of them start dance training as well. In the meantime, Dörte’s romantic finale is in jeopardy. Jimmy has no intention of falling in love with her and turns out to be far more realistic than expected, preferring a secure apprenticeship to a career in dance. But then Jens and Jimmy meet, and at first Dörte’s boyfriend has no thought other than to beat up his supposed rival. In the end, though, the two decide to return to Killerman’s Resort and dance the famous finale to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” with their respective partners. They also work in a few moves from other dance films. After the final lift, Dörte and Jens find themselves together on the country road where Dörte had the accident.
