Two elderly drifters find a gold-filled riverbed and make a map that soon draws a crook’s attention.

The story

Elderly drifters Gin and Whiskey Joe discover a riverbed full of gold after their rickety vehicle overturns. They leave the treasure in place and make a map, dividing it between them. After Whiskey Joe loses his half, crook Bart gets hold of the plan and searches for the other piece. He first suspects Dave and Bob, two gay men stranded in Kansas City. This draws the curiosity of gang leader Merrison, whose interest may be in Bart or the conspicuously dressed couple.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The two elderly drifters, “Gin” and “Whiskey Joe,” can hardly believe their luck when their rickety vehicle overturns and they discover a riverbed full of gold. They leave the treasure where it is and make a map, which they divide in two. Shortly afterward, Whiskey Joe loses his half of the map—and his life—in another mishap, while the hulking crook Bart gets hold of the plan. As he searches for the other half, Bart first suspects Dave and Bob, two gay men stranded in Kansas City. This, in turn, draws the curiosity of another gang leader named Merrison—whether toward Bart or the conspicuously dressed male couple. Eventually, the pursuit leads to a convent and a shootout, until the other drawing is discovered in the barrel of a shotgun—though it is not really needed, since Gin knows where the treasure is. The Mother Superior then orders that, after the gold is deposited at the convent, Gin is to stay there and look after the many donkeys. Dave and Bob, who want no part in the discovery, are meanwhile taken into the dance troupe by its leader, Jessica.
