Trauung mit Hindernissen (2018)

The two fellow teachers Katrin, mother of Saskia and Leo, and Philipp have both been through failed marriages and live together as a blended family. Their relationship is generally harmonious, but their hectic everyday life leaves them hardly any time alone together. While Katrin longs only for some peace and quiet, Philipp surprises her with a marriage proposal during a fake teachers’ meeting. To his disappointment, Katrin turns him down; she believes they can continue to be happy together without getting married. She has not yet come to terms with her last marriage to Frank, who had two more children with his new, younger partner, Julia. Romantic Philipp, however, is obsessed with the idea of a romantic wedding and looks for ways to convince Katrin after all. He finds an ally in Renate, his future mother-in-law, who turns up at their home in Leipzig without warning. Meanwhile, Julia unexpectedly moves in with Katrin and Philipp, without asking, along with her young children. Katrin’s father Horst also suddenly appears at their door with Beate, his new partner. Katrin is annoyed and stressed. The only place she finds some relief is with Julia’s stepbrother Marcel, who is passing through on his way to India. Katrin is impressed by his independent lifestyle. Jealous of Marcel, Philipp therefore plans a surprise wedding on the spur of the moment with Renate. Katrin finally has had enough. The next day, she wants to apologize for her outburst, but when she returns, she finds her mother dead, having suffered a stroke. Beate and Philipp are supposed to pay for the funeral, because Horst and Renate, who were still married, were broke, and Renate had to vacate her apartment as a result. After an accident, Katrin has to go to hospital because of a possible concussion, and it is discovered there that she is pregnant. At her mother’s memorial service, Katrin finally accepts Philipp’s proposal, and the two get married.
