Full plot (contains spoilers)

Catherine and Marcello are a close-knit couple. Their nine-month-old daughter, Camille, is the center of their world. Catherine and Marcello admit that they are happy and can see no further than their own bliss. But one day, what they thought only happened to other people befalls them: little Camille dies. Catherine and Marcello refuse to accept this blow of fate. They break with their former life, their friends and loved ones, and shut themselves away in their apartment. There, they withdraw into themselves, going through periods of misunderstanding. Marcello gives up his job; when Catherine goes out, she spends her days praising her daughter to mothers taking their children for walks in parks… Then one evening, tired of the unchanging surroundings, Catherine and Marcello decide to go far away on an adventure. In a village where they stop, they come across a wedding party. Little by little, life reasserts itself: Catherine and Marcello drink, dance, and laugh. Their cheerfulness, false at first, becomes more genuine. But at dawn, the memory of Camille resurfaces in the form of an old, forgotten photograph.
