Süßer September (2015)

Thirty-nine-year-old Rebecca is a book conservator and a committed single woman. After numerous failed relationships, she sees love as “a double suicide in slow motion.” Nearly fifty-year-old journalist Bruno feels much the same way and avoids deeper attachments. When the two meet in a Berlin bar, they become friends—with the explicit understanding that they will never become a couple. When Bruno has to travel to Geneva for his son Beat’s graduation celebration, Rebecca goes with him. On the journey and once they arrive, the two grow closer as they deal with Bruno’s eccentric ex-wife, Joelle. Nevertheless, both shy away from taking the decisive step into a committed relationship. Back in Berlin, Rebecca tries to put her life in order and moves in with the thoroughly reliable Johann, along with his dog. When it becomes known that Bruno’s ex-wife Joelle is terminally ill with cancer, Bruno and Rebecca support her together until her death. After this experience, they finally recognize their true feelings for each other and overcome their fear of commitment.
