Les éblouis (2019)

Camille, a 12-year-old girl from Angoulême who is passionate about circus arts, watches as her parents join a charismatic community called the Dove Community, whose values are based on sharing and faith. Their sudden commitment unsettles Camille: her routines change radically, and she is forced to give up circus. She also realizes that the community her parents are becoming involved with is behaving more and more like a cult. Camille and her brother Matthieu do not seem to accept the rules their parents have chosen to follow, such as those concerning clothing. The older girl does not understand the communal exorcism sessions her mother undergoes, and soon she is subjected to them herself. Camille gradually realizes how serious the situation is and sets out to save her family, but above all to protect her two brothers and her sister from the isolation imposed by the community. Finally, she discovers that her youngest brother, Benjamin, is being sexually abused. Their mother denies this reality, under the harmful influence of the community and its guru, known as “the Shepherd.” Camille decides to sneak out and tell the police everything. They intervene immediately and take the children to safety.
