The story

After a man is murdered on land at Montagne de Canuc, in the commune of Saint-Chély-d'Aubrac, young Rodez deputy prosecutor Élisabeth Richard takes charge of the case. She faces open hostility from gendarmerie Captain Paul Jansac, a career officer unenthusiastic about being subordinate to a woman. As the investigation proceeds, Élisabeth must navigate long-standing local rivalries and closely guarded family secrets to identify the culprit. The film combines a criminal investigation with a portrait of the society around it.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

A man is murdered in Laguiole, in Aveyron, in the Aubrac region. Élisabeth Richard, a young deputy prosecutor in Rodez, is put in charge of the case. She has to contend with the outright hostility of Captain Paul Jansac of the gendarmerie, who worked his way up through the ranks and is not enthusiastic about being subordinate to a woman. He gradually changes his mind, eventually completely reversing his opinion of the charming and competent deputy prosecutor... Élisabeth, for her part, must untangle the knots of age-old rivalries and uncover closely guarded family secrets in order to unmask the culprit. The film is both a criminal investigation and a social portrait. The man is not murdered in Laguiole, but on land at Montagne de Canuc, in the commune of Saint-Chély-d'Aubrac, in the Aubrac region.
