Full plot (contains spoilers)

After the sudden accidental death of his wife Babette, life falls apart for Markus and his 15-year-old daughter Kim. Things become no easier when Kim’s grandmother Gerlinde, who wants to support the father and daughter, learns that she has cancer and will have to undergo chemotherapy. Only Paula, the home-care nurse, brings some relief to the situation. At first, Gerlinde keeps her illness from her family and pretends she is traveling. With Paula’s help, she undergoes chemotherapy at home. But one day, Paula decides it would be better to tell Markus. Kim falls in love with Alex, a school dropout, and flees with him from their complicated home life to a holiday camp in Denmark. Markus wants to bring her back, so he travels after her with Grandma Gerlinde and her young caregiver, Paula. They spend the night at the holiday village, where Markus and Paula grow closer, and she unexpectedly seduces him during the night. The next day, they find the two teenagers and persuade Kim to return with them. On the drive back, Grandma dies peacefully in the car, and the film ends with a reconciliatory funeral.
