The well-to-do actress Ines Kupfer wants to arrange a lavish dream wedding for her daughter Natalie’s marriage to Stephan de Groot. Her daughter, however, would much prefer a modest wedding. Ines is threatened by an anonymous caller and letter writer. Nora Regener, the wife of Ines’s family doctor, Thomas Regener, suspects that Ines Kupfer is her husband’s lover. Nora shows up at Natalie Kupfer’s pre-wedding party and threatens Ines, saying she will reveal a secret at the wedding. A short time later, Natalie overhears her future husband, Stephan, and her mother talking about a past affair. Soon afterward, Natalie accidentally causes Nora’s death in an accident at the boathouse, which catches fire shortly afterward.
