Stranded on Ibiza after a string of travel mishaps, a young couple is swept into the island’s carefree beach-party scene.
The story
Soon after arriving in Ibiza, young couple Mike and Susi discover that their hotel room is occupied, and their belongings and travel money are stolen as they search for another place to stay. They find temporary shelter with one of Susi’s longtime gay friends in a run-down beach villa. As their vacation gets underway, they fall in with a beach clique known as the “Beautiful Savages of Ibiza.” The newcomers join the group’s days-and-nights of partying, dancing, drinking, and romantic entanglements, while trying to make the most of their unexpectedly chaotic stay on the island.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Hardly have the young, attractive couple Mike and Susi arrived in Ibiza when they run into trouble. Their hotel room is already occupied, and when they go looking for somewhere else to stay, their belongings, along with their travel money, are stolen too. They initially find temporary shelter with one of Susi’s longtime gay friends. But the place, billed as a beach villa, turns out to be more than a little ramshackle. Even so, the vacation can now begin, and the two young people quickly fall in with a beach clique, the “Beautiful Savages of Ibiza” named in the title, whom they now join. They party day and night, enjoy themselves together, dance, and drink liters of alcohol. There is no shortage of eroticism either, and a merry game of musical partners ensues. Before long, however, Mike and Susi are homeless again, because the enraged father of one of the young wild ones simply sets fire to the hedonists’ beach hut. But so what! This is Ibiza, where joy, fun, and sex define the carefree everyday life of the partygoers between the beach and the nightclubs, and a burned-down hut doesn’t dampen the mood for long. The blazing sun overhead and the omnipresent, nonstop soundtrack of chart hits from the era, such as “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc. and “Play the Game” by Queen, do their part to ensure that the good mood never completely fades. After various further excesses, Mike and Susi even get their money back for a happy ending.
