When her old school friend moves into her home, village helper Katja is also called on to care for two children whose parents have gone missing on a mountain-climbing trip.

The story

After Mark Weber sells his house to remain with his ailing father in Leipzig, his tenant, village helper Katja Baumann, must share the living space with the new owner, Jan Steinmann—an old school friend who has moved to Frühling with his teenage son, Adrian. As the new household settles in, Pastor Sonnleitner calls Katja: a married couple has apparently been caught in a storm while mountain climbing and has not returned. Their two worried, underage children would be left without supervision, so Katja sets out late in the evening to look after them and calm Paula and Nicky.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Mark Weber has made a last-minute decision to sell his house because he wants to stay in Leipzig with his ailing father for an indefinite period. As his tenant, village helper Katja Baumann has to deal with the new owner. As it happens, it is Jan Steinmann, an old school friend of hers, with whom she now has to share the living space and find a way to get along. Steinmann has settled in Frühling with his teenage son Adrian and wants to fulfill his old dream of country life there. As her new housemates are moving in, Katja gets a call from Pastor Sonnleitner. A married couple apparently got caught in a storm while mountain climbing and still have not returned. Their two worried, underage children would be left without supervision, and Katja is asked to look after them. So she sets off late in the evening and tries to calm Paula and Nicky. The next day, after the mountain rescue team finds the vacationers, Katja’s task seems to be over. But she continues to worry about the family, because it is obvious that they are all suffering from the father’s extreme overzealousness. Katja gradually discovers that Peter Söringer does everything only to prove to his father what a “tough guy” he is, without realizing that he is “destroying” himself and his family in the process. To break this vicious cycle, Katja contacts Söringer’s father. He agrees to come to Frühling, where, with Katja’s help, father and son finally talk things through. The Söringers’ problems make Katja reflect, and she has to admit to herself that she has never dealt with her own past with her father either. She had never forgiven him for leaving her and her alcoholic mother. When Katja finally sets out for the retirement home where her father is supposed to have been living for years, unfortunately she is too late. He died two days earlier.
