The story

Full plot (contains spoilers)
Medical doctor Dr. Sophie Heimbach is asked by her former mentor, Dr. Ursula Stein, to travel to Sumatra for her first overseas assignment. The country has been struck by a major earthquake and now needs help from the aid organization “Doctors Without Borders.” Sophie has been assigned to keep an eye on surgeon Dr. Matthias Kreusler because he is suspected of embezzling donations and medications. When Sophie arrives in Sumatra, the arrogant Matthias does not exactly welcome her. He doubts that she, who has so far only been accustomed to university operating rooms, can hold her own in the camp or make life-and-death decisions. But Sophie shows everyone that she is undaunted and supports the camp wherever she can. In time, Sophie and Matthias grow closer. But medications and bandaging supplies are running increasingly low. Then the next medical aid shipment gets held up at customs as well. Sophie sees Matthias meeting with the rebel leader and begins to doubt his loyalty. When she tries to confront him, the area is hit by an aftershock.
