Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film follows Chief Inspector Julia Durant and her first case after a police operation in which she was seriously injured and traumatized. Three young women are found murdered and mutilated at different locations in downtown Frankfurt. The investigation by her team, consisting of detectives Markus Schulz and Felix Dombrowski and forensic pathologist Elif Kaymaz, leads to a group from Frankfurt’s high society. The group includes business consultant Roland Menzel, lawyer Daniel Tomlin, and psychologist Martin Patanec. During the investigation, another young woman goes missing and, shortly afterward, is found dead in a city forest. Durant believes, however, that this murder was committed by a copycat, since many details, such as where the body was found and the victim’s clothing, do not match the previous murders. Soon afterward, Menzel’s son confesses to this murder because the young woman had broken up with him and was pregnant by his father. Meanwhile, tennis student Vera Maiwald is abducted and held at Patanec’s cabin in a wooded area. When Patanec arrives at the cabin, Maiwald manages to free herself with a scalpel and escape. Patanec is then shot dead. Durant discovers that Tomlin committed the serial murders because of his traumatic childhood and the death of his abusive mother. He wanted to frame Patanec by summoning him to the cabin and placing the scalpel where Maiwald could use it to free herself. Patanec’s murder was supposed to look like suicide. Tomlin now tries to kill Durant, since she is the only person who has discovered his secret so far. Fortunately, her colleagues Schulz and Dombrowski manage to stop him.
