Seven episodes follow young women apprentices as they encounter sexual attention and unequal power in their workplaces.
The story
Across seven episodes, young women begin apprenticeships in workplaces ranging from a department store and hair salon to construction, a print shop, an airfield, a fashion store, and an electronics shop. Annemarie tries to win over her supervisor, but he rejects her, and the men in her department begin to regard her as “fair game.” Marianne, training as a hairdresser, meets a man who suggests she could earn more as a trade-fair hostess. Franziska is expected to train in construction before taking over her father’s company; after she rejects a foreman, he makes her work life difficult. The other stories introduce apprentices facing pressures and unwanted attention at work.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Seven episodes depict the sexual experiences of young women apprentices in their workplaces. Annemarie Gade starts an apprenticeship as a window dresser at a department store. She tries to “get somewhere” with her supervisor, Wilms, but he rebuffs her advances. The other men in the department notice, and now they think the girl is “fair game.” Marianne Haupt begins training as a hairdresser, where she meets a man who suggests she work as a trade-fair hostess, since she would earn much more that way. She soon realizes she has fallen in with a really nasty pimp. Franziska Köck’s father owns a construction company, so he wants his daughter—who is later supposed to take over the business—to train in construction. In this male-dominated profession, the girl has to run quite a gauntlet. The foreman in particular has it in for her and makes her life difficult because she turned him down. But Franzi knows how to stand up for herself. Loni Probst is an apprentice at a print shop. Her father is a drunk and takes the meager wages she earns. She befriends Tim, a member of a motorcycle gang, and dreams of a future with him, but Tim doesn’t realize that Loni is still underage. Jutta Klenk works in the food service business at an airfield for sport pilots. There, the braggart Weber pursues her, mistaking her nervous blinking for interest in him. But she feels more at ease with Dieter, who stutters a little when he’s nervous. Elsa Wagenführ is training to be a saleswoman at a fashion store, where her lesbian supervisor, Miss Schmittke, has taken an interest in her. Karin Hohmann is an apprentice at Mr. Kruttke’s electronics shop, where he regularly gropes his numerous young female apprentices. A plan has to be devised to put a stop to the lecherous man …
