Full plot (contains spoilers)
To prevent him from investigating several cases of corruption in the army, parachute major Paolo Altieri is promoted and transferred to Rome. There, against his will, he becomes involved in the kidnapping of a child, which he nevertheless manages to thwart. The kidnappers use special submachine guns, MK-118s, issued only to his regiment. Altieri realizes that there must be an illicit trafficking operation behind this and begins investigating alongside Paolo Tosi, a State Police commissioner. The two uncover an organization seeking to destabilize the entire country with a coup d’état plotted by senior officers and people above suspicion. However, after foiling the coup, the commissioner accidentally kills the soldier.
