Full plot (contains spoilers)

Adar is a twelve-year-old girl who lives with her divorced mother, Alma, and Alma’s partner, Michael. One day, on her way home from school, she meets Alan, a young dreamer who looks like her, and brings him home to live with them. The family welcomes the boy immediately, especially Michael, who would also like to use him as a model for the paintings he makes. One evening, while on his way to pick Alma up from work, Michael takes Adar with him and stops for a meal at a place used as a drive-in. When Alma sees her daughter in the car, she gets angry, fearing that Adar will be too tired to go to school the next day and that this will eventually prompt the teachers to expel her. At home, too, the woman takes out her frustrations, perhaps over her job, on her daughter and her partner. Later that night, Adar is woken by noises made by her mother and her partner having sex. Curious, she asks Alan whether he has had sex before, and when he says yes, she asks him what it feels like. Amused, the boy mimes the ways people have sex for her. As the days go by, Adar begins to grow jealous of the bond that has formed between Alan and Michael. One night, Michael tries to kiss Alan and then sexually abuses him. Adar goes to wake her mother and tells her to follow her to her room if she wants to see the most terrible thing in the world. The woman, however, pays no attention to her words and goes back to sleep. The next morning, at breakfast, Alan says that theirs is the most disgusting family in the world and, after threatening Michael with a knife when he approaches him, leaves the house. Adar runs after him and watches him walk away into the traffic without saying a word. That evening, Adar’s mother finds her sitting on a bench. The girl tries once again to warn her mother about the kind of man Michael is, but she does not listen. Only later that night does the woman perhaps realize that something is wrong with her partner, and she refuses to have sex with him. The film ends with Adar going to her new school one morning.
