On the way, they stop to visit their friend Jean-Paul, who lives in a community of laid-back hippies occupying a contested site and campaigning against the construction of a water park. Drawn to their way of life and their resistance to modern technology and industrial society, they decide to stay with them for a few days. One morning, they discover that the gendarmes who had been monitoring the community have disappeared, as has the population outside, decimated by a pandemic, leaving them as the last survivors on Earth.
