Full plot (contains spoilers)
Mavie is a young woman who has just arrived in Paris and is staying with a friend. In a café, she comes across an ad offering hours of work at a bookshop on Rue de la Montagne-Sainte-Geneviève. She decides to apply and meets an older man named Georges, who is grumpy, disillusioned, and misanthropic. His character intrigues and fascinates her. A platonic love story will bind them together until Georges is forced to leave; it turns out that he is a former member of the Italian Red Brigades living in exile. Once the pain of his departure has passed, Mavie meets a sensitive, committed young man. She moves away from Paris to live elsewhere in France.
