Regina (2020)

Regina, a 15-year-old aspiring singer-songwriter, lives with her father, Luigi. Her mother died years ago, and he is all the family she has. They share the same passions and depend on one another. Their very strong bond is put to the test by a tragic event that will change their lives forever: one day, while out on a boat trip on the lake, Regina runs over a diver and kills him. Her father persuades her to run away and pretend nothing happened. When the body is found, the Carabinieri begin investigating and questioning all the boat owners in the area, but Luigi manages to sell his boat just in time. Regina is desperate and decides to get close to the man’s family by working as a babysitter and general helper. One evening, instead of going home, she hides in the attic, and the next day she sells the amphorae the man used to search for on the lakebed and then resell under the table. Worried because Regina has not come home, Luigi confronts her young boyfriend, Vincenzo, who has no idea where she is, and ends up being beaten by the boy’s relatives. When Regina is hospitalized after attempting suicide in the lake, her father tells her that the time has come to tell the police everything.
