Full plot (contains spoilers)

During the film’s opening credits, Adele stands on a rocky ledge above a steep drop. Fifteen-year-old Adele lives with her parents on a remote farm. There, she comes under the control of Timo, an escaped convict who once murdered his father. Adele makes a pact with Timo. She treats his injuries and helps him escape; in return, he is to kill her. Together, they set off. Once Timo is safe, he is supposed to push Adele off a cliff, since she cannot take that step herself. Adele repeatedly asks him to go through with it, but Timo keeps putting off an act he does not want to commit. Since he initially needs her help, he cannot leave her either. They flee into the woods. The police suspect that the teenager has been abducted and are on their trail. Timo now needs her as a hostage to protect his own life. Adele stays with him, hoping he will fulfill her wish to be killed. The time they spend together gradually brings the two protagonists closer emotionally. It emerges that Adele has not come to terms with her brother’s death. Adele falls ill, and Timo nurses her. Together, they flee to Marseille to find Timo’s brother, from whom Timo hopes to get money and help. In the film’s final scene, the two protagonists walk toward a ferry in the harbor—they continue their escape together.
