Unterwegs mit Elsa (2014)

Recently widowed Elsa sets off on a life-changing trip to Croatia with her granddaughter Clara and her daughter Fanny. Suddenly, after her husband’s death, Elsa is literally left out on the street. Apart from a mountain of debts, her late husband has left her only a villa in Opatija, Croatia. His last wish was for Elsa to make something of the house. She asks her daughter and granddaughter to accompany her on the long journey. And since Elsa is finding it hard to let go of her husband, she secretly brings along the urn containing his ashes, too. Her granddaughter Clara, who finished high school a year ago, is adventurous and enthusiastic about travelling to Croatia. Her mother Fanny, a hospital doctor with little time for spontaneous trips, is rather sceptical about the whole idea, but agrees on the condition that they are back home in three days. They set off in Elsa’s light-blue Citroën DS convertible. Thanks to Milan (Alain Blazevic), a charming Croatian travel agency owner, a car breakdown can’t hold the three women up for long. The closer they get to Opatija, the closer the three women grow to one another—but what awaits them at their destination is not what they had hoped for.
