Maria and her brother-in-law Mario, who is of noble birth, leave Milan for a small rural village in the United States to attend the wedding of Maria’s son, Chris. When they arrive, they discover that Chris is gay and has decided to marry his partner, Michael. The two men live happily on a farm, and Michael’s mother, Rosetta, runs an Italian restaurant in the center of the small town. Maria and Mario take the news badly and do everything they can to call off the wedding, until Maria realizes how important it is to put her son’s happiness first. At this point, together with Rosetta and Chanel, Chris and Michael’s best friend, she must try to change Mario’s mind too. Throughout their adventure, Maria and Mario are monitored remotely via tablet by their psychological guide, Dr. Schultze, and their spiritual guides, a group consisting of the Reverend, the Sacristan, Sister Clementina, and Don Celestino.
