Full plot (contains spoilers)

Things have been going wrong for the odd-job man Sulawski, known as “Sulle”: first his girlfriend leaves him, and then his beloved Ascona is impounded (“They must’ve shat in your head!”). Things are no better for Susanne, a shop assistant; her marriage is in ruins. When her pathologically jealous husband Klaus attacks her at work and then takes their son hostage, the situation escalates. Klaus is eventually shot dead by Markus, an ambitious police officer who is shortly to marry into a well-to-do family. At the end of this eventful day, Sulle, Susanne, and Markus—old friends who grew up together in Wedding—bump into one another by chance after five years, back at their old hideout, a warehouse near the Berlin Wall. They have to admit that their dreams for their lives have failed. They spend the rest of the day and the night together, reminiscing about the dreams they shared in school as they drift between Zoo and Wedding.
