The story
Sixteen-year-old Jann tries to shield his mother, Lina, who has bipolar disorder, from the outside world. While juggling school, a part-time job, and household chores largely on his own, he falls in love with Selma, who is a year older, and finds it increasingly difficult to keep his mother’s secret.

Sixteen-year-old Jann tries to shield his mother, Lina, who has bipolar disorder, from the outside world. She is creative and spontaneous, but she also has a dark side. Jann often struggles through the daily demands of school, his part-time job, and household chores alone. When the teenager falls in love with Selma, who is a year older, he finds it increasingly difficult to keep his mother’s secret. Jann gradually lets go of his responsibility for his mentally ill mother, thereby giving Lina the chance to receive professional help.
