Das Vermächtnis der Wanderhure (2012)

The merchant’s daughter and former itinerant prostitute Marie lives with her husband Michel as a respected baroness at the court of King Sigismund. She is expecting their second child when King Sigismund appoints Michel First Knight. Michel’s oath of loyalty obliges him to accompany the king into the looming war against the Tatars. With a heavy heart, he lets Marie travel alone from Nuremberg to Hohenstein for the impending birth. While Marie shows little understanding of Michel’s loyalty to the king, Sigismund’s power-hungry mistress, Hulda von Hettenheim, plots a diabolical scheme: she kidnaps Marie and takes her newborn son so that she can present him to the king as her own child and thus the rightful heir to the throne. As Sigismund is about to go into battle against the Tatars, Hulda has already allied herself with the enemy. With the help of Andrej Grigorjewitsch, foster son of the Tatar prince Terbent Khan, she intends to overthrow Sigismund and rule as queen mother. Andrej kidnaps Marie and holds her captive as a slave in his harem. Marie’s only way to thwart her rival Hulda’s conspiracy, ever see her son alive again, and prevent the “Golden Horde” from assaulting Sigismund’s weakened army is to win Andrej’s favor.
