A married pair of divorce lawyers who champion amicable separations face a personal crisis when Valentine discovers Alex’s affair with one of their clients.
The story
Alex and Valentine Dubois are married lawyers who represent opposing sides in divorce cases, seeking calm, respectful separations. Their preferred approach includes shared custody and blended families, unlike the appalling domestic scenes they associate with the previous generation. They hold up their own marriage as an example of the happiness their approach can offer. Their latest case ends with Florence and Arthur’s successful separation. Then Valentine discovers that Alex is having an affair with Florence, and tries to avert a crisis.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Alex and Valentine Dubois are married and specialize in divorce law. They have made a habit of each representing one side and seeking amicable separations, handled calmly and with mutual respect—preferably with shared custody and a blended family, far removed from the appalling domestic scenes of the previous generation. To achieve this, they do not hesitate to hold up their own happiness as an example. Their latest case, for instance, ended with Florence and Arthur’s successful separation. When Valentine discovers that her husband is cheating on her with Florence, she tries to avert a crisis before learning that the whole courthouse knows. Hurt, Valentine opts for a more aggressive approach. From then on, an amicable divorce between her and Alex is out of the question.
