The story
Brigitte and Bernd Mittler, a young couple, interview housewives about their social lives. The responses are presented as separate, unconnected episodes rather than one continuous story.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The young couple Brigitte and Bernd Mittler conduct interviews about housewives’ social lives. The answers they receive are presented throughout the film as unrelated episodes. One shows a neglected housewife desperately searching for an affair. Later, the film depicts a trainee teacher falling in love with one of her own students, and a young woman from East Germany using her charms to seduce men in West Germany. A young heiress to a company is married off by her parents to a man, so the marriage gets off to a bad start. She finds happiness with her lawyer’s son. The sexual practice of role-playing is also explored through the example of a married couple: the wife has to arouse her husband by behaving and dressing like a prostitute. After taking potency-enhancing medication, a master hairdresser is once again able to satisfy his unfaithful wife.
