Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film opens with flashbacks recounting the campaign to suppress the rebellion of the 12 warlords and unite the kingdom of Đại Cồ Việt under its founding ruler, Emperor Đinh Tiên Hoàng (Đinh Bộ Lĩnh). However, the Đinh dynasty quickly plunged into a deep crisis after the emperor was assassinated. At a destabilized court, as the transfer of power between the Đinh and Early Lê dynasties proved precarious, the fate of the nation hung in the balance. Empress Duong (inspired by the Empress Dowager) bore an immense burden, torn by a painful inner conflict between political intrigue and the survival of the dynasty. To protect the deceased emperor’s final resting place from hostile forces, an ultra-secret plan was devised. It was orchestrated by a Mường shaman, a sage versed in astronomy, geography, and the spirit world. He presided over a sacred forty-nine-day funeral rite to prepare for a perilous mission, a true race against death. Seven warriors were entrusted with a mission against the clock: to transport ninety-nine coffins in seven different directions to deceive the enemy. Throughout this journey, one crucial question remained unanswered: what did these coffins really conceal? The remains of the deceased emperor, or an even greater secret that the warriors had sworn to protect at the risk of their lives?
