While recovering from a shooting, Hubert takes a mountain break with Girwidz that turns into a cross-border murder investigation.

The story

After being shot while pursuing a suspected killer, Hubert survives but is left with nightmares and doubts about his job. A friend from the bakery distracts him with a bucket list, and Hubert begins working through it, including borrowing a Ferrari. When his boss grants him time off, she assigns Girwidz to accompany him and keep watch. Their mountain hike near the German-Austrian border is interrupted when they discover a body. Two Austrian alpine police officers arrive, and the investigators initially split responsibility for the bodies found on either side of the border. Their superiors soon order all four officers to work together, bringing them to an inn in a nearby village as they investigate a group of hikers connected to the deaths.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Hubert and Girwidz are called to an apartment building in Wolfratshausen after the caretaker hears screams. They find a body in one of the apartments. The suspected killer tries to escape. He had apparently been looking for a large sum of money. Hubert catches up with him, but the man shoots him. Hubert survives by sheer luck. The shooter literally ends up under the wheels of a car, but the case is still not solved. Hubert has nightmares and begins to doubt his job. Yazid from the Rattlinger bakery takes his mind off things with a bucket list of 99 things one should definitely do at least once in a lifetime. Hubert starts working through the list and borrows a Ferrari F8 Tributo. When he takes some time off, his boss, Sabine Kaiser, assigns his colleague Girwidz to accompany him and keep an eye on him. The two set off on a hike in the mountains near the German-Austrian border. On their way to boundary stone 147 in the Allgäu, Germany’s southernmost point, they stumble upon a body. A second body lies not far away. As they are about to carry the body lying on Bavarian soil across into Austrian territory to save themselves some work, two Austrian alpine police officers, Susanne Gabler and Franziska Haas, show up. Each pair of investigators decides to deal only with “their” body for the time being. But precinct chief Sabine Kaiser and the Austrian officers’ superior, David Pichler, who arrive at the scene shortly afterwards, order all four to investigate together. They choose the inn in the nearby village of Ödweil as their base. The two bodies they found, Martin and Adrian, had been hiking with two others; the man found dead in the Wolfratshausen apartment, Florian Strucker, was among them, as was a fourth person, Zoe. During their investigation, the four officers meet a woman who claims to be Zoe and says that an unknown gunman attacked her while she was hiking uphill. The Austrian officers take her with them, while Hubert and Girwidz climb to the summit. At the summit cross, they find an entry by the four hikers in the summit register, making it clear that the woman claiming to be Zoe lied. They find the real Zoe murdered beneath a wooden shelter. However, because there is no radio reception, they cannot warn their colleagues. Meanwhile, during an interrogation, a drug dealer whom Christina Bayer had previously discovered during an undercover operation admits that he gets his drugs from Ödweil. The investigators conclude that the four hikers happened to be at the site of the drug deal, took the approximately 1.3 million euros, and were killed because of it. While descending, Girwidz and Hubert are forced by masked assailants to jump off a cliff, but manage to take shelter beneath a rocky overhang. When they reach Ödweil, they discover that the whole village is involved in producing drugs. Officers Gabler, Haas, and Kaiser rescue Girwidz, Hubert, and Pichler, who had earlier been overpowered and locked in the cold-storage room, and arrest the small village community—just over a handful of adults.
