Hüter meines Bruders (2014)

Gregor (32) and Pietschi (30) go sailing together every year at Pentecost. Gregor is a successful doctor, married to Andrea. Pietschi has never had a long-term relationship, lives above a bar, and has no regular income. While the brothers are on vacation together, Pietschi disappears without a trace during a visit to a bar they are sharing. Andrea is away on a trip for a longer time without her husband. Gregor keeps calling his brother, but cannot reach him. He asks his brother’s friends and acquaintances whether they have seen him. Because of a case of mistaken identity involving Pietschi’s new neighbor, Gregor gets the keys to his brother Pietschi’s apartment. He searches the apartment for clues about his brother’s whereabouts and recognizes in some photographs a woman who works at the bar, Jule. He befriends her and spends time with her. Gregor spends more and more time in Pietschi’s apartment, neglects his work, ignores calls from his wife Andrea, who is away on vacation, and lies to himself and others. He reads his brother’s mail, wears his clothes, sleeps in his bed, and eventually sleeps with Jule, his brother’s ex-girlfriend. Many details of Gregor and Pietschi’s last conversations that Gregor can remember are shown in flashbacks.
