The story
Thirteen-year-old Victor knows nothing about music or his father, who has come to conduct Mahler at the Opéra Comédie in Montpellier. From a distance, Victor watches him and discovers the world of rehearsals. Then Victor’s mother, Nadia, tells him they must leave their house on the beach. He worries about her, sensing she is hiding something, and about his budding relationship with Luna, the Spanish girl next door. Victor decides to show himself to his father for the first time.

When thirteen-year-old Victor walks through the doors of the Opéra Comédie in Montpellier, he knows nothing about music. He knows nothing about his father either, who has come to conduct Mahler’s [work title omitted in the source].
