Full plot (contains spoilers)
Alexandre is a taciturn 16-year-old who lives alone with his father in Namur. Their relationship is ambivalent: his father is violent and unpredictable, and cannot stand his son’s accusing look as Alexandre reproaches him for living like a failure, stuck in a dead-end job at a supermarket. Alexandre takes refuge in rowing, a sport in which he achieves good competitive results, although his father encourages him only reluctantly. He has even jeopardized Alexandre’s athletic progress by injuring his leg while beating him. Sometimes Alexandre has no choice but to run away from home to escape his father’s violence. At the rowing club, Alexandre seeks support from his coach, Sergi, who knows nothing about the boy’s family difficulties. Pablo, a new arrival at the club, unsettles Alexandre even more; at first, he rejects and resents him. Sergi nevertheless manages, through a bit of scheming, to get the two boys to like each other and pairs them up for a doubles competition, which they ultimately win at the Belgian Championships.
