The story
In late-1970s Lyon, brothers Gabriel and François have taken sharply different paths. Raised by their father, Gabriel is the elder and favorite son, but he has spent ten years in prison for a murder connected to a pimping operation. François, meanwhile, serves in the police force and is trying to distinguish himself from his brother. When Gabriel is released, François gives him a place to stay in a maid’s room and finds him work at a supermarket. Gabriel’s attempt to re-enter ordinary life is fragile, with the prospect of returning to crime looming over his fresh start.

Lyon, in the late 1970s. Gabriel and François are brothers. They were raised by their father. Gabriel is the elder. He spent ten years languishing in prison for a murder committed in connection with a pimping operation. The favorite son. François, by contrast, is in the police force and is trying to distinguish himself from his brother. When Gabriel gets out of prison, François puts him up in a maid’s room while he gets back on his feet, and finds him a job in a supermarket. His reintegration is tentative, and bad company and money problems threaten to derail this new, law-abiding life, away from crime.
