The story
Two young people discover Julien Monnier’s body outside the Régulus Caves, troglodyte caves on the banks of the Gironde estuary. At the crime scene, Captain Grâce Talbi learns of a striking parallel: ten years earlier, 17-year-old Sarah Pinter was found in the same place, killed in a similar manner, and her case was never solved. An old book, *Wild Flowers of Love*, lies beside Julien’s body. Grâce discovers that the officer who investigated Sarah’s death, Alex Mercier, has since left the gendarmerie and become an antique-book expert. Once her youthful love, he is now someone with whom things ended badly, but she asks him to help with the investigation.

Two young people find Julien Monnier’s body outside the Régulus Caves, troglodyte caves on the banks of the Gironde estuary. When Captain Grâce Talbi of the gendarmerie arrives at the crime scene, the forensic pathologist points out a strange coincidence: ten years earlier, Sarah Pinter, a 17-year-old girl, was found in the same place, also killed with three stab wounds to the stomach. The case was never solved. An old book titled *Wild Flowers of Love* is found beside Julien Monnier’s body. Grâce learns that the officer who handled Sarah Pinter’s case left the gendarmerie to become an expert in antique books: Alex Mercier, her youthful love, with whom things ended badly. She goes to his bookshop to ask him to help with her investigation.
