Mein Schwiegervater, der Camper (2019)

Markus’s new girlfriend and holiday romance, Lena, is pregnant, which makes the lawyer very happy, since he has always wanted children. The fact that Lena’s father is turning 50 in a few days would be a good opportunity for him to finally meet her family—but Lena initially tries to put him off. Markus decides to follow her and arrives at a campsite on an island. Lena’s father, Hartmut, runs the campsite and, as a former pilot, is known by the others as “Captain.” He wants Lena’s ex-boyfriend Andi as his son-in-law, and expects him to take over the campsite one day. Markus is nothing like the candidate Hartmut wants, so Hartmut and the other campers make his life difficult. Lena’s sister Carmen advises Markus to clear away some junk from the campsite to make a better impression. Markus helps Carmen’s shy son Bejay fit in with a group of kids and impress a girl. Markus accidentally discovers that Hartmut suffers from a fear of flying and is undergoing therapy. When Hartmut’s therapist turns up at the campsite, Markus pretends to be her patient so Hartmut won’t be embarrassed in front of the others. After Andi arrives and the Neptune Festival is celebrated, Markus inadvertently reveals that Hartmut is being given a seaplane. During the night, Hartmut goes to the plane and destroys its propeller. Although Markus sees him do it and is now accused himself, he once again refuses to expose Hartmut and leaves the island. With his father, Markus repairs the propeller overnight in a covert operation. The next morning, Bejay drinks a bottle of vodka to impress a girl and has to be taken to hospital, so the plane is the only option. As Hartmut flies off with Markus, Lena, and Bejay, he suffers a panic attack. After Lena tells him that she is pregnant, he pulls himself together and manages to land safely. At the birthday party, Hartmut admits to the guests that he has suffered from a fear of flying since an emergency landing and is in therapy. However, this does nothing to diminish the guests’ esteem for him.
