Prestami tua moglie (1980)

Alex is Diana’s live-in partner and all-purpose handyman. Diana is a wealthy entrepreneur. His comfortable life is turned upside down when he receives a phone call from his ex-wife Ingrid, who is returning to Milan. Not knowing why she is coming back and thinking she intends to demand the support he never paid her, he tries to hide his financial status for fear of the consequences. With the help of his employee Vittorio, he pretends to be penniless, hoping Ingrid will drop her claim. But this lands them both in a bizarre situation that leads to a series of misunderstandings, ultimately ruining Alex’s dream of landing a contract he cared a great deal about. Ingrid steps in to save the situation, revealing that she has become well-off through an inheritance. It then becomes clear that she had intended to make her financial resources available to her ex-husband to help him. Her intervention also prevents Alex from falling into the trap set by Mario Bonotto, a con man posing as a well-known businessman, who had also been romantically involved with Diana in the past. In the end, Alex and Ingrid reconcile, while Diana gets back together with her former suitor.
