Full plot (contains spoilers)

Anna Haslböck is an author who publishes books under the pseudonym Karina Norden, including I Think of Myself: The Success Strategy of the Self-Confident Woman. In her latest book, Try It with a Younger Man, she recommends that her female readers find a younger life partner. To boost sales, she hires the younger drummer Nicolas Auer for publicity, asking him to pretend to the public that he is her lover. Nicolas was recently thrown out by his girlfriend, Lena. Lena had read Karina Norden’s self-help book I Think of Myself and already has a new man, whom she considers better suited to father the child she wants. In reality, Anna herself has been the mistress of the older industrialist Wolf Richter for ten years. He tells her that he cannot leave his wife, Ilse, because she is psychologically unstable and would otherwise kill herself. Nicolas thinks this is a convenient excuse. Anna accuses Nicolas of being thrown out by Lena because he is a good-for-nothing, not because she had read one of her books. Together with her agent, Margit, Anna is working on her own talk show. However, the show is looking for a co-host, and Anna does not want to appear on camera with Nicolas. Margit advises her to accept the offer to get a foot in the door. After a joint home-profile feature, journalist Martina Schwarz asks to interview Nicolas alone, and the two subsequently begin an affair. Martina, however, demands clarity about where things stand, while Anna insists that Nicolas honor their contract. She wants to wait until her own TV show is doing well before making their separation official. When the press reports that Wolf Richter has declared a society lady to be the love of his life and that the two plan to marry, Anna is devastated. Nicolas tries to comfort her. Anna eventually confesses to Ilse Richter that she has been her husband’s mistress for ten years. Ilse and Bodo appear as guests on Anna and Nicolas’s talk show. There, Ilse reveals that she had been having an affair with Bodo for almost 14 years. She had thought that leaving her husband would kill him. Ilse can now publicly acknowledge Bodo because she has found her husband a new woman. After the successful show, Anna releases Nicolas from his obligations. In the meantime, Nicolas had told Martina about the arrangement between Anna and him, and Martina had accepted it.
