Full plot (contains spoilers)

Princess Rosemarie von Lichtenberg hopes to take a short trip to her native Tyrol while her husband is away on a journey. She finds lodgings in Haller, where a traditional festival is due to take place over the next few days. During the festivities, however, she learns that her husband often enjoys the company of women while traveling and intends to come to Haller for that purpose as well. She therefore decides to surprise him at his hunting lodge. But the Prince suddenly travels on to Innsbruck, so in his place appears Count Herbert von Waldendorf, hired by his uncle, Baron Weps. Herbert quickly falls in love with the Princess, whom he does not know. Meanwhile, the Prince arrives in Innsbruck, where he meets the dancer Lisa, who hides in his carriage when he leaves. By the time the Prince returns home, his wife has also gone back. There, the court servant Wiesl discovers Lisa asleep in the carriage, believing her to be the Prince’s illegitimate daughter, as the Prince’s adjutant, Leberle, has assured him in order to spare the Prince an unpleasant scandal. When Lisa wakes, Wiesl tells her of her supposed connection to the Prince, and she believes him because she does not know who her biological father is. At the Princess’s birthday celebration, she throws herself into the Prince’s arms in full view of everyone. The Princess consequently leaves her husband and moves to the countryside with von Waldendorf.
