The story

Ana’s routine is upended when she accidentally learns that the son supposedly declared dead after birth 17 years earlier is still alive, confirming a suspicion she has carried for years. She becomes consumed by the search, and her family begins to fall apart, but she cannot stop until she learns the truth. Her sister joins her in searching for the teenager, who lives in a town not far from Belgrade. Their search touches on newborns who disappeared from hospitals, were declared dead, and, according to hundreds of parents’ testimonies, were sold for adoption.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Ana’s routine is disrupted when she accidentally learns that her son, who supposedly died after birth 17 years ago, is still alive, just as she had suspected all those years. As she becomes obsessed with searching for him, her family falls apart, but she cannot stop until she learns the truth. Her sister joins her, helping her find her son, now a teenager, who lives in a town not far from Belgrade. The film deals with the issue of newborn babies who have disappeared from hospitals and been declared dead over the years, but were in fact sold for adoption, according to the testimonies of hundreds of parents. The screenplay was inspired by the testimony of a seamstress from Belgrade who has been searching for her dead son for almost 20 years. She is fighting the hospital administration and doctors, the police, the courts, and municipal officials to obtain an accurate death certificate that would provide proof of where her child was buried.
