Full plot (contains spoilers)
Davide Di Rienzo has a medical degree but does not practice medicine, choosing instead to volunteer with Caritas because he is cowed by his overbearing, hypercritical father, also a renowned doctor, who considers him the black sheep of the family. After his father’s death, Davide returns with his two siblings, Isabella and Renzo, who work as a psychologist and a lawyer, respectively, to the family villa in Sicily. Their mother, Lina, visibly shaken and weakened by her loss, asks her children to stay with her. After several days at the family estate, their mother seems invigorated and cheerful, leaving the three siblings confused and incredulous. She explains her change of mood by announcing that she is about to marry Mr. Angelo Cederna, her former sweetheart from her youth. The three siblings are united in opposing their mother’s marriage to Cederna, but she pays no heed to them and proceeds with the arrangements for her second wedding. On the wedding day, a series of events brings family secrets to light, once again overturning the family dynamics between the mother and her children.
