Linda and Jakob’s retirement plans are disrupted by their family’s wedding plans and a new childcare responsibility.

The story

After retiring, Linda Rosenau hopes to enjoy time with Jakob, a retired Latin teacher, and explore the world. Their plans are disrupted when Linda’s daughter Leonie and Jakob’s son Thomas, parents of triplets, plan to marry, leaving Linda and Jakob busy caring for their grandchildren. Linda questions whether Leonie should build a career before marrying. An opportunity arises for Leonie to help fashion mogul Marius von Boonen with an advertising campaign. Meanwhile, Betty asks Jakob for daytime care for Fritz, her son from a past one-night stand with Thomas. Jakob agrees but wants the planned wedding to go ahead and hides Fritz’s parentage from Thomas, while Linda thinks they should tell the truth.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After retiring, Linda Rosenau had planned to enjoy spending time with Jakob, a retired Latin teacher, and explore the world. They are connected not only by their affection for each other but also by their three grandchildren. Linda’s daughter Leonie and Jakob’s son, who are the parents of the triplets, now want to get married. This throws Linda’s own plans for the future into disarray, since she and Jakob now act almost exclusively as babysitters for their grandchildren. Linda is also skeptical about her daughter’s marriage plans, as she thinks Leonie should first build a career so she can meet her husband as an equal. An unexpected opportunity soon arises: the eccentric fashion mogul Marius von Boonen, whom Linda knows from her professional past, needs help with a new advertising campaign, and Leonie is to assist him. Meanwhile, a young woman named Betty gets in touch with Jakob. Some time ago, she had a one-night stand with his son Thomas, and little Fritz was the result. Betty urgently needs daytime care for him. Jakob agrees on the condition that Betty will not let this new development derail the planned wedding. So Jakob absolutely does not want Thomas to know that he has another child, and comes up with all kinds of excuses about Fritz’s true parentage. Linda thinks they should tell the young people the truth, but accepts Jakob’s decision. However, with all the babysitting, he now has hardly any time left for Linda. Shortly before the wedding, Leonie and Thomas decide they should wait a little longer after all and cancel the celebrations. Then Jakob tells Thomas who Fritz really is. Leonie is initially shocked, but Thomas’s efforts toward her and the triplets convince her. She is determined to stay committed to their future together, even if more of Thomas’s children should turn up. Since there will be no wedding for the time being, Jakob surprises Linda with two plane tickets to Myanmar, a place she has always wanted to visit.
