Frau Rettich, die Czerni und ich (1998)

The film’s narrator, Sophie, who is secretly nursing a crush on the handsome bookseller Bakunin, drives to Spain with her pregnant boss, Mrs. Rettich, and her despised, union-active colleague Czerni. Mrs. Rettich wants to marry her Spanish boyfriend there, whom she calls only “Pupsi.” Unbek noticed, Czerni’s erratic fiancé follows them; Sophie calls him only “the Beard.” On the way, he teams up with Bakunin, who had earlier angrily walked out on his partner without any clear aim—a fact Sophie does not know. In Spain, Czerni begins an affair with a Spaniard who turns out to be married, and gets into trouble with the unexpectedly appearing Beard. Rettich arrives just in time for “Pupsi’s” wedding, but he is about to marry someone else. Enraged, she literally drops Pupsi into the water. More complications follow, until everyone celebrates in grand style, and Sophie and Bakunin become a couple. In the end, the three women are back in Germany, all pregnant. They later give birth: Sophie has Bakunin’s child, Mrs. Rettich has hers without a man, but on Christmas Eve, and Mrs. Czerni and the Beard have twins.
