Full plot (contains spoilers)
Isabelle works at INSEE and earns a comfortable salary; Maxime is trying to make it as a screenwriter and comic-book artist. They enjoy a perfect love story together until Isabelle tells Maxime she wants to have a child. Maxime doesn’t feel capable of supporting the family they would have, and refuses. A series of romantic comings and goings then ensues for the couple: breakups and reconciliations become part of everyday life, along with attempts to take a lover and introductions to Isabelle’s parents, whose orderly, even dreary, comfortable life is no model for the two lovers.
