The story
Julien Blaise worries that his only son, Valentin, takes no interest in anything—not even young women. Valentin works as a waiter at a luxury hotel where his father is head waiter, and keeps making blunders. Julien thinks it is time for his son to find a wife, but the prospect is daunting given Valentin’s foolish, boorish nature and insensitivity to the beauties of life and love.
