Full plot (contains spoilers)

Camille, a young woman in her thirties who works as a swimming instructor, is waiting for true love. In the meantime, she throws herself into lighthearted, experimentally varied romantic affairs. A chance encounter with Alexis, a married man with two children who heads the local Socialist Party, brings her hopes to fruition. Ready to accept anything to have him—or at least to have an affair with him—she uses a strategy of infiltrating his private activities and his marriage, becoming a close family friend. After being very reluctant to respond to her advances for a while, Alexis eventually gives in to his desire and to Camille’s exuberant nature. Once the first sparks of their secret relationship have passed, the adulterous couple quickly confronts its limitations. In the end, quite literally for lack of a better option, Camille marries Ben, a truck driver and friend of Alexis. Both couples—the new one and the official one—quickly fall apart, and Camille, now a pregnant new Eve, finds herself alone before one final meeting with Alexis.
