The story
Jean-Pierre Ménard, a successful businessman in his fifties, enjoys a comfortable life with his wife, Odile, whom he loves. Their marriage is strained because Odile, bored and weary, refuses marital intimacy, leaving Jean-Pierre frustrated. He confides in Richard, his chauffeur, who is facing a similar situation with his partner Caroline. Richard proposes that the men use their financial support as leverage, reasoning that both women depend on them. Jean-Pierre condenses the idea into a blunt ultimatum—“No sex, no money”—and moves quickly to put it into practice.

Jean-Pierre Ménard, a successful businessman in his fifties, enjoys a comfortable life alongside his beautiful, elegant wife, Odile, whom he loves with all his heart. His happiness would be complete if Odile, out of boredom and weariness, did not refuse to perform her marital duty. Jean-Pierre, who has very masculine needs and still desires his wife, suffers from the situation. He tells Richard, his chauffeur, who is experiencing exactly the same problems with Caroline, his partner. Pragmatically observing that both women live off them, Richard suggests blackmailing them by cutting off their money. Jean-Pierre tersely sums this up as “No sex, no money,” and hastens to put it into practice.
