Full plot (contains spoilers)
Nurse Omar is supposed to get a Christmas tree for his family—a task at which he fails spectacularly amid chaotic turmoil. When his neighbor suffers a heart attack, he moves her magnificent tree into his apartment. Josef is thrown out by his partner and moves in with his daughter Rosi and her daughter Pepi, with whom he has been out of contact for three years. His grumbling manner toward his granddaughter immediately makes the situation extremely tense again, but she decides to keep her grandpa. Simon and his Chinese wife, Kaili, receive Simon’s mother for her usual Christmas visit. Everyone else hates the racist jokes she makes at Kaili’s expense. They hide her dog, Lucky, and later let her think over dinner that the roast is the dog. His mother runs out of the house in a rage, and her husband thanks Simon for it. Parcel delivery driver Vlad is stuck in an elevator with a package he can’t deliver. The emergency service is unavailable. Several neighbors gather and take him for a dangerous Arab. Even when the doors open again, nobody helps him out. Franz and Mathilda go to visit Franz’s parents. It is Mathilda’s first time meeting them, so she is keen to make a good impression. Cut to the drive home: Mathilda is completely drunk and, judging from Franz’s remarks, has behaved utterly appallingly. Two gay couples get together for Christmas dinner. A Santa Claus rings the doorbell and drops off presents for the guests. Oskar seems shaken and tells his partner Hannes that Santa Claus was a one-night stand many years ago, and that he is still impressed by him. This finally gives Hannes the courage to propose to Oskar. In the end, it turns out that Oskar had engineered the whole thing for this very purpose. Birgit and her young daughter Franziska are traveling by train to a Christmas gathering, but the train has to stop indefinitely because of an incident involving personal injury. Since Franziska is afraid she will miss the Christ Child as a result, the dining-car staff prepare a little Christmas celebration especially for her.
