Tod in der Bucht - Ein Kreta-Krimi (2025)

After forty years, internationally successful investigator Eleni Theodoraki returns to her home island of Crete to take up her post as the new head of the Rethymnon homicide division. But her return is no homecoming for her—she feels like a stranger and encounters resistance not only at work but also within her own family. Her first case back in her old homeland lands in her lap a day before her official start: the powerful head of the building department, Philippis, was murdered with a jet ski in a cove on Crete. The investigation quickly focuses on her niece Niki’s fiancé, hotelier Jorgos Simonidis. Did he bribe his old university friend, or did the victim want more money after the building permit had been granted? A heated argument between the two raises questions. But a restaurant owner whose livelihood was threatened by Philippis’s decisions may also have had a motive. As Eleni advances the investigation with her young team, including her great-nephew Alexis and the ambitious Penelope, she is drawn into an inner conflict: Jorgos’s arrest threatens the planned wedding and turns her family against her. Her sister Marina is particularly hostile—not so much because of the case as because of a secret from the past that hangs over Eleni’s return.
