Full plot (contains spoilers)
During a performance of the new medieval show at the Ramparts in Provins, the director Renan Thomas, back in his hometown, is stabbed in front of the audience. Among the spectators are Captain Karine Demarle, who works at 36 Quai des Orfèvres, and her son Jonas Robin, with whom she has come to see the show. The prosecutor assigns her the investigation jointly with Captain Patrick Robin, her ex-husband. As the investigation progresses, they learn that Renan Thomas is a director who cheerfully cheats on his wife, Chloé Medard, notably with Marie Lange, the daughter of Dr. Martin Desmarais. Just as it comes to light that Renan had staged his own attack to generate “buzz,” he is found dead in the underground passages of the old town of Provins. Old photographs from 1995 reveal a long-ago affair: Marie Lange is Renan’s daughter. He had left town before she was born. Marie, whose mother has died, was raised by Dr. Desmarais. During a secret meeting in the underground passages, Martin Desmarais tells Renan everything, but Renan refuses to end the affair. Desmarais shoves him; Renan strikes the wall of the passage with great force and dies of a brain hemorrhage.
