When their former girlfriend breaks her leg, two men who can barely stand each other are asked to run her dance school.
The story
When dance instructor Isolde breaks her leg, she asks her two former boyfriends, Hans and Joachim, to run her dance school temporarily while she recovers. The men can barely stand each other: Hans lives for the moment and has just been thrown out by his wife, while Joachim, who took early retirement, is compulsive and obsessed with order. Each regards the other as a freeloader or a pedant. Though they complement one another, Isolde initially exploits their differences, pitting them against each other. The dance classes attract younger and older customers, especially thanks to instructor Martha’s talent.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After dance instructor Isolde breaks her leg while working, she sends two of her former boyfriends, Hans and Joachim, a letter asking them to run the dance school temporarily while she recovers. The two do not particularly like each other; they are far too different. Hans lives for the moment and has just been thrown out by his wife, while Joachim, who took early retirement, is extremely compulsive and obsessed with order. Each sees the other as a freeloader or a pedant. Yet they complement one another, making them an ideal combination for Isolde’s school. At first, Isolde cleverly pits them against each other, manipulating them to her advantage. The dance classes are popular with both younger and older customers, especially thanks to dance instructor Martha’s talent. Despite a few teething problems, Hans and Joachim become friends and gradually see through their ex’s plan. First, however, they face further problems. Because of water damage at the school, Joachim has to take in the homeless Hans, creating some potential for conflict. Martha is repeatedly abused by her husband, Wolfgang, so Hans and Joachim have to help her too. In revenge, Wolfgang throws a Molotov cocktail into the school, where their son Carlo also happens to be. Carlo and his girlfriend manage to get to safety from the fire in time. Hans and Joachim have by now come up with a cunning plan of their own and, in response to Isolde’s manipulations, simply turn the tables on her. Since Joachim was also supposed to take care of the new lease, he has made himself and Hans the new leaseholders. Carlo had actually planned to shoot a promotional video with the dance students at the school. Because of the fire damage, they move the shoot to the fountain in front of the Munich Peace Monument. This gets them plenty of clicks and additional enrolments, allowing the two men to continue running the dance school.
